Massaging your hands is a simple, effective way to relax
your whole being. Your hands work hard throughout the day and deserve
some tender loving care. Massage your hands to keep them looking
their best, to alleviate the stress of the day, or to help you fall asleep. One great advantage of a hand massage is that it doesn’t have to
take place only at home since it isn’t obtrusive and doesn’t require special
equipment. Try giving your hands a quick massage at the office or even
when waiting in line or for an appointment. Lotion or oil (olive, jojoba,
sweet almond, etc.), while not necessary, enhances the hand massage and leaves
your hands feeling extra special. Apply lotion or oil and rub in to warm up your hands. Massage your left
hand first. Using your thumb and index finger, gently pull each finger
from base to tip. Work each finger pad. With your thumb, massage
your lower palm, concentrating on thicker areas at the base of the thumb and on
the side under your pinkie. Draw your thumb from between pinkie and ring
finger to the base of the palm, between the bones. Do the same between
other hand bones. Gently squeeze forearm from the wrist up to the
elbow. Repeat to massage your right hand.
Your hands are sure to be very happy at this point!
To make your massage even better next time, try to eliminate as many
distractions as possible, even by putting on headphones and closing your
eyes. Soothing nature sounds or calming music without words can drown out
other sounds and set the mood. This will help concentrate your senses so
you can focus on how your hands feel throughout the massage. If a friend
is willing to massage your hands for you, that’s even better. Then you
can sit back and fully feel the calming effects.
Massage your own hands for five minutes in a simple setting
such as your office or have a lengthy massage session with a professional –
either way, your hands will thank you for it. |
